The inaugural Vets League has been embraced by six of Hong Kong's clubs and kicks off on Saturday 24th October - heralding in the first rugby matches in the territory since February.
This explosive league for the over 40’s, promises to light up King’s Park once a month on Friday evenings with some of the most dynamic and energetic senior citizens and former legends of the game in Hong Kong.
Representing the Valley Nags will be a collection of elder statesmen under the leadership of Justin “Juddy” Temara, Alex “Badders” Baddely and Colin “Olse” Olsen. Expect lots of referee guidance being offered between all the grunting, gasping and wheezing. Don’t expect kicks to touch to be chased to eagerly or retrieved to hastily by these relics of the game – such as Freddy Laine, Ollie Stratton, Craig McKenzie, Brett Stewien and others.
The compulsion to come along and support the men against HKFC will be at astronomical concentrations but alas, massive crowds are not permitted and the admiring fans will only receive second hand hearsay of the mighty feats and exaggerated and questionable feats –filtered through several tins of amber refreshment and egged on by their teammates.
If you happen to hurt yourself in Kowloon on Saturday afternoon, avoid the Queen Elizabeth hospital. The queues will be epic.
