We proudly welcome Shirndre-Lee Simmons, an accomplished coach and international representative hockey player, to Societe Generale Valley RFC Hockey. She will wear both a coaching hat and playing hat, as she works with the various teams in the Hockey section, as well as feature as a player with our Division One Premier League Womens team, the Angels.
The addition is very exciting as we continue to elevate the technical and tactical skills of our players and teams, and further develop the performance of our hockey section.
“Coach Lee” (as she is fondly called) brings a decade of knowledge, skills and achievements, including several leadership roles as head coach, team captain and international representative athlete. Spanning over 10 years and having represented South Africa in various teams, Simmons has played in both the Junior and Senior Hockey World Cups, the Commonwealth Games, the Africa Cup of Nations and the South African Provincial competition as part of the Free State Womens team. She is also an experienced coach, working with those new to the game all the way to those at performance academy level.
When asked what she enjoys most about hockey, Simmons stated “sport is a language that everyone can understand” and she loves sharing her “knowledge and technical skills with players to help them be successful at every level”. Simmons’ personal mantra of “trust the process” is at the core of everything she does, which she herself leveraged to score a goal during the 2022 AFCON; an Olympic pre-qualifier event.
Eldest of three sisters, all of whom play hockey competitively, Simmons has once ranked nationally for squash, and more recently played Sevens Rugby as a member of the First Ladies team for the University of the Free State in South Africa a little over a month ago.
Simmons is looking forward to exploring Hong Kong through her love of hiking, new experiences and indulging her inner coffee aficionado.
