4. Youth Netball

Our Youth Netball focuses on establishing good movement patterns, developing strong netball skills as well as netball specific fitness and techniques, empowering players confidence, leadership skills and ultimately aiding them to become the best netballers they can be!

Training
The training season (generally) runs September-April. Every Wednesday 545pm - 7pm.
Training sessions take place at LCSD Wong Chuk Hang Recreational Ground (108 Wong Chuk Hang Road)

Fixtures and Tournaments
The Hong Kong Netball Association runs a Junior Netball League which Valley RFC proudly competes in. Fixtures are generally played on Saturdays between Noon-18:00(October-December) and Sundays between 9:00-15:00 (January-April).

  • Our ability to enter teams into the HKJNL competition depends entirely on the number of registrations we receive for each age group and may mean we need to combine age groups to form teams.

  • To ensure the enjoyment of all involved, those with less experience with the sport will be expected to initially enjoy and develop their skills during trainings where they will be assessed to enter into the competitive environment of the Junior League when it is suitable.
  • Age Groups
    Once registered, your child(ren) will automatically be sorted into age groups as below
    Registration Age Groups:

    Please note:

    • We appreciate children all develop differently – there is actually no strict rule about when children should move up a level. We recommend that you should always start in the prescribed age group for your child. Speak to the coach about your child’s progress and they will always give you the best advice.
    • We are still building some of our age groups numbers (especially U10's).

    Youth Netball Weather Cancellation Policy

    Youth Training is cancelled when any of the following conditions occur:
    T8 or above;
    Red or Black rain warning which will be active after 3pm or before 7pm;
    Amber rain warning which is going to be active at 3pm; or
    T3 which is going to be active at 4pm (unless danger has clearly passed on HK island);
    Thunderstorm warning with lightning that will continuously affect the area of Training for period of training.

    In all cases, Valley will send a message if training is cancelled. In addition, all the above conditions can be checked by parents using HKO website/app.

    Notes:

    • Thunderstorms in particular can be localized, and it is possible a T3 could be in effect when a typhoon has passed or the weather is calm in the training, vicinity hence conditions 4 & 5 above allow common sense to be applied.
    • Government pitches are open in Amber/T3/Thunderstorm although ”management may also exercise discretion to close the facilities when, in its opinion, that the facilities are unsuitable for use from safety or operation point of view”.

    Youth Training is on in all other circumstances. Communication will only be sent confirming training is "on" if there is a T3/Thunderstorm that does not meet conditions 4/5

    Where possible we will make the call as early as possible on Training Days to avoid unnecessary travel. Though in the case of typhoons, it may be possible to make the call the previous evening.
