What is left to say, when the result is a 1-3 win for the Enchiladas, our first win of the season!

Facing a very young, very fast, and very skilled Kai Tak team, and with only one sub on our side, to say that it was unexpected is an understatement. Enchiladas were gearing up for a beating under the hot sun. Top notch coaching from Vulture and Doug over the past few weeks began to pay off though, as we experienced the power of attacking down the right, playing to our strengths. We were able to utilise some beautiful receive-control-passes down the right resulting in two goals, much to coach Doug’s satisfaction. Thank you for the constant reminders during the game! The first goal came from a right hand cross from Larisa, and finished by Caitlin, giving the team a boost and a new belief that a win might just be possible. The second goal was scored by Jaclyn, her first ever and hopefully the first of many more, from a beautiful assist by Ivy. A third goal came soon after from a short corner rebounding off the Kai Tak goalie’s foot and neatly tapped into goal by Jodie, leaving us in a strong position of being 3-0 up.

Throughout the game we learned the value of protecting the middle. Kai Tak however gave us a lot of room there, allowing us many times to quickly switch play to the other side. Our practise of slap hits and passes began to pay off and big thanks to coaches Vulture and Doug for teaching us so effectively. Special mention to Carla, who everyone agreed dominated centre mid, and R-E-S-P-E-C-T to our other two midfielders, Emma & Ivy who did not stop running back and forward displaying some impressive stick skills getting the ball out of defence and up to the forwards. It was also a game of happy returns, welcoming Sam back to the Enchiladas! Just like riding a bike, she had an outstanding game as the first line of defence, intercepting several Kai Tak balls swiftly and sending them right back. Out defence of Karlijn, Astrid, and Sim, showcased a relentless determination to protect our D as if their lives depended on it . . . or possibly to defend the right to post-match beers! Kai Tak’s only goal came from a short corner in the final quarter, which we know is when we get tired, despite battling to stay strong and avoid complacency. Last, but by no means least. a big shout out to our volunteer goalie, Kate, who busted out some suave saves ensuring that this was the only goal from our opposition.

Once again, we showed we have A-MA-ZING team spirit with everyone falling back to help out in defence in the last few moments of the game. The Enchiladas chilli fire saw us through showing our love for the game as much as our love for our socials!
