Angels Beat HKFC B 1-0

This weekend’s fixture saw another exceptionally strong start from the Angels. From the get go, the tempo was high and the Angels dominated HKFC’s 25 with numerous circle entries. The game plan: to push for penalty corners and utilise these to put goals on the scoreboard, proved more challenging than the team had thought with the forwards struggling to find the feet of the opponents and having a number of missed opportunities in the circle. Nonetheless, the pressure was on and both teams fought hard for possession of the ball.

In the second quarter, it was Agui who managed to seal the one and only goal of the match with some incredible stick work to get around the FC’s defenders and a back shot that went under the keepers foot and hit the backboard.

The second half saw the Angels under a bit of pressure for a few minutes with Football Club hungry for goals and Jacinda receiving a green card for a stick tackle. Despite this, the team managed to defend hard and keep them out of the danger zone. The midfielders did well to get the ball up the field and into the circle where the Angels conceded a penalty corner. Despite great efforts from the team, Kelsey’s drag flick went just wide of the post.

Once again, the team managed to maintain a solid structure throughout the game with the backs transferring the ball with confidence and at incredible speed. The midfielders maintained their high work rate with the likes of Alana, Cards and Griz constantly working the ball up the field.

With 5 minutes to go, Fabian called for a final push, sending the defenders higher up the field and demanding ball possession. Football club snuck in a counter attack up the left of the field, which was quickly stopped by Valleys defense and the Angels successfully defended right up to the end of the match.

All in all, it was a great game of hockey with many ice cold beers deservingly enjoyed post match.
