Valley Hockey Men’s Extreme played an excellent game on Sunday against Hong Kong Cricket Club. Although it ended in a draw, Extreme should be proud of how hard they fought to stay in the game, and each player played with determination and skill.
The defence was solid and held up against the few attacks due to man-marking their players and never leaving a man open. When the opposition did break through, it was mainly due to either a foul or quick succession passes through the defence.
Next time, the defence can utilise the “triangle method” and always have a second man behind.
In midfield, the players were able to connect the ball from defence and either run with the ball on the sides or pass it through to the forward players. The players were able to help the forward players greatly, but may need a reminder and the fitness to also run back into defence to help.
For attackers, there were more than ten shots at goal, but unfortunately many of them hit the posts or missed. Possibly better positioning in the D may solve this issue, and having players on the post ready could fix these problems for future games. Players should also try to spread out more and not be too crowded in front of the goals. A player should be at the top of the D, on the posts and one in front.
Overall, it was a high-intensity game with great passing, defence, and interceptions. Valley E should be proud of their no-loss record so far this season.
