The Scene: Somewhere between a veteran's masterclass and a dinosaur convention.

The Dinosaur Herd Rears Its Ancient Head

In a division dominated by whippersnappers with hamstrings that actually work, Valley Extreme rolled into battle today looking less like a hockey team and more like a gathering of the Elders of the Pitch. But as Coach Martina (bless her, swapping her Sunday lie-in for this chaos) would tell you, you can't polish a turd, but you can give it a really good tactical structure.

Pre-game, our glorious captain Mofo was faced with a Sophie's Choice: keep the band together, or save the Ds from themselves by loaning out some of our prized dinosaurs. Showing the kind of leadership that wins wars, he made the tough calls, and we still managed to rock up with a solid 14. The vibe was instantly improved by the return of a legend: Andreas was back! Spot him in the corner, gingerly testing that hamstring like it was made of porcelain, but his heart was full of fire.

Between the sticks, standing like a colossus (and probably regretting not bringing a deckchair), was the one and only Wongy. Stepping up for the team once again, he looked ready to defy the laws of physics and Father Time.

First Quarter: The Unlucky Bounce
The game started with the young, fit Sirius B team buzzing around like energetic flies. We, however, had structure. We had experience. We had... a moment of Milo.
Despite our dominance, disaster struck. Milo, in a moment of charitable giving, decided the opposition needed a better angle and accidentally stood about four inches too close to them on a free hit. Short corner conceded.
Wongy, proving he’s worth his weight in gold (or at least a nice pint), pulled off a stunning first save. But alas, the rebound was swept back in and took a wicked deflection through his legs. 0-1. The dinosaurs looked at each other, sighed deeply, and mumbled something about "these things happen."

But here’s the thing about old dogs: we don't panic. We just grumble and get on with it.
Minutes later, the magic happened. Scotty, our playmaker, went on a mazy, clever run into the D. With the eyes of a sniper, he pulled sideways to the returning Andreas, who didn't even think about his hamstring. One touch. Bang. Goal. 1-1. A proper "welcome back" present.

Second Quarter: The Coco Cannon
The Extreme kept pounding away at the Sirius B D. Our passing was crisp, our movement was confusing (even to us sometimes).
Then came the moment of the match. Coco, deep in our own 25, decided that walking the ball up was for the young folk. He wound up and absolutely blitzed a middle that must have broken the sound barrier. It landed perfectly (eventually) in the path of Milo on the opponents' 25. Milo, seizing his chance at redemption, drifted wide like a surfer catching a wave, then cut back and rifled an unstoppable shot into the top of the goal. 2-1. Absolute filth.

Third Quarter: Clever Kids
Sirius B reminded us they weren't just here for the cardio. They pulled out a seriously well-drilled short corner routine—a sneaky pass, a slap to the far post, and a simple deflection. 2-2. They may not have our wisdom, but they’ve clearly been practicing in the dark.

Fourth Quarter: Experience Wins the Day
With the game in the balance, we needed a hero. Step forward, the dream duo of Scotty and Milo.
On the top of the D, they played a beautiful one-two that sliced through the defence like a hot knife through butter. The kind of move that makes you look like you actually train together. Scotty collected the return and, with the calm of a man ordering a coffee, pushed it coolly into the corner of the net. 3-2. Textbook.

The Great Escape
The final five minutes were absolute chaos. The ref’s watch must have been broken. Sirius B, throwing everything at us, were awarded a string of penalty corners. We defended like our lives depended on it. Bodies were on the line. Tantrums were thrown (accidentally, of course). They even got one after the final whistle had gone! But our wall, marshalled superbly, held firm. We weathered the storm like the old battleship we are.

Final Score: Valley Extreme 3 - 2 Sirius B

The Kudos Corner:

· Scotty: Our playmaker general. Involved in everything good, capped with the winning goal. Immense.
· Milo: From zero (conceding the corner) to hero (scoring an absolute cracker). That's character.
· Andreas: A goal on his comeback! We’re pretty sure he iced that hamstring for 48 hours straight immediately after, but worth it.
· Wongy: The man, the myth, the legend between the sticks. Stepping up time and time again. Wongy for Prime Minister.

And finally...
For the first time in living memory, Valley Extreme finished a game with a full compliment of players. NO GREEN CARDS. NO YELLOW CARDS. Are we ill? Did we accidentally sedate ourselves? Whatever it was, let's bottle it.

A massive, well-earned win against a strong, fit team. Who needs youth when you have cunning, a good short corner defense, and Wongy in goal?

Up the Extreme! ??
