As Valley RFC continued to grow, the need for a second social rugby team was clear. Originally it was thought that The Mustang’s II side should be called The Donkey’s, which was what the team was called for the first season or two…

Eventually though, it was felt that being a Donkey was insufficiently inspiring (probably by the backs) and the legend which is The Griffins was born.

From the earliest days the team has been a broad church…encompassing first timers, up and comings, down and outs, stalwarts of HK society and total reprobates in perfect harmony. Rugby is a leveller, and nowhere is that more true that in The Griffins.

Accolades have since flowed having won numerous league and grand championship titles, including winners of the first ever Xiamen Tens. Alumni have included the Hong Kong great Salon Yiu Kam Shing…and Weasel.

But as much as we leave it all on the pitch, we also party & tour with the very best of them, being the founders of annual classic events such as Not Cheung Chau Tour, Grifftoberfest & Griffmas to name just a few.
