Aside from coaching, Gus is a dual code international athlete, having represented the New Zealand Softball team and the Tonga Rugby team at the Rugby World Cup.
Valley RFC’s COO Samantha Scott said “Gus brings with him an impressive coaching pedigree. He has amassed a wealth of knowledge and honed his skills in various coaching roles, working with high caliber teams. His passion for rugby and his dedication to nurturing talent have earned him a stellar reputation within the rugby community in New Zealand, and we have no doubt the same impact will be felt across all our teams at Valley and the wider rugby community”.
The Leger family name forms a significant part of the Valley RFC’s legacy, as Gus Leger’s brother - Nick Leger, formerly coached the Valley RFC Mens Premiership in the early 2000’s with tremendous success. As a genuine, high achieving family, Gus will eventually be joined by his wife Dr Whetuu Nathan, as their 3 children Orbyn Leger, Arizona Leger and Ingram Leger chase their dreams across the globe.
With the presence of another Leger in town, Gus’s appointment has reignited the excitement of many former players, supporters and management and perked the curiosity of those currently involved – a smashing season ahead indeed!
