It was a tough game against Sri Lanka. The sad thing is that we haven’t yet had one victory throughout the tournament, but our 2 goals (final score 4:2) against Sri Lanka marked the improvement from time to time in these 2 weeks! I’m pretty sure our coach and the whole team love the way we improve in terms of our mentality, ability and game intensity. I hope these are not the only things I can bring back for myself as an individual, but also the particular core elements to Valley!
It was the official rest day of the tournament, but not for our team. We spent the day to watch the match videos and discuss with each others. We really wanted that win. We really wanted to achieve more in this tournament. We still believe our hard work will pay off eventually.
Besides, it was the birthday of our assistant coach Popeye. On behalf of the team, wish him all the best.
The seventh day of the tournament. We have a match against Singapore. It was a disappointing result today against Singapore. We need to learn from the mistakes we made and have to achieve something in our next game. We should reflect on ourselves, the mistakes we have made and perform well in our last game. In the midway of the whole journey, not only can we learn a lot from playing infield and watching high intensity games, but the enjoyment with the whole team would be the unforgettable memories in my hockey career.
Last night the organizer, Oman hockey association hosted an official dinner to welcome all the technical officials, umpires, team representatives and guests. I spent that short period of time to greet and get to know the people. After the chairperson of Oman hockey association shared some of his inspirational and meaningful words towards the Asian hockey community, we exchanged souvenirs. I would like represent my team to say thank you to the host for the warm welcome and gift.
The sixth day of the tournament was a training day. Training at 11am i could say the sun burnt us so badly. I think the coach was pointing at our weaknesses throughout the training. Every one of us ran out our best. To us being part of the the hk junior team as a whole, is tough yet meaningful! During our leisure time, we went out to the mall for a quick break. We had some nice beverages and refreshments there!
It was a tough game today against Chinese Taipei. The opponents have well organized playing structure and discipline. We started the game well in a defensive perspective. Therefore, we ended the first quarter without conceded goals but we also struggled to get any goals upfront. The mistakes and turnovers created huge pressure to us. Those were also the key reason of our 4:0 lost to the opponents. We have to raise our quality in order to get more outcomes and better results in the next and final pool match versus Singapore.
The fifth day of the tour was a rest day for our team. After dinner, we went to the pitch to see the game between Oman and our next opponent, Singapore. Different tasks were assigned to us, for example, we have to take a look at the opposition’s press shape and their playing style. Pre-match analysis is a key element that helps the development of specific game plan towards different teams and players. Wish the preparation can lead us to the first victory in this tournament.
Going through a tough loss yesterday, I think it is time for the whole team to move on. I think this is one of the best way to prepare the game tomorrow by doing video review and watching games. We hope our effort and preparations will pay off not only in the coming match, but also the whole tournament.
First game done. Playing against the home team was never easy. The Oman team players were physically strong and tough to deal with. They were quick, which also mean they were good at counter attacks.
We ended up losing 7:0 to the opponents as we did not start the game well in our pace. We have to limit our mistakes, especially the turnovers. Thus, the opponents cannot take advantage on our mistakes easily.
It was not our best performance but I believe we will keep improving in the following matches.
