Many congratulations to Timmmmmy Alexander and Yiu Kam Shing, Saloon who have both been selected in the Hong Kong team for this weekend's Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse HK 7s. A fantastic effort by them both and I'm sure you will be joining me in cheering them on from the stands.
Timmy is the nephew of former Australian International Rugby League legend Greg Alexander, and cousin of present Wallaby prop Ben Alexander, so he comes from pretty good stock. Scrum-half Timmy, from 'Stralia, has been an ever-present in the Valley 1st team for a number of years, winning several League titles and Grand Finals with Valley. He has also been a fixture in the HK 15s team since becoming eligible last year. He can often be seen around the SOHO area wearing a Cork Hat, talking out of the side of his mouth and wearing his Thongs. His favourite team after Australia and HK is ENGLAND, and his hero is Sir Winston Churchill.
We are particularly proud of Saloon as he has come up through the ranks at Valley, starting rugby as a teenager with the Ma Jais, Valley's local development team. Congratulations must go to Andy Yuen, Higgie and Lee Chuk Yin who spotted his talent, encouraged him to take up rugby and developed his raw potential. Thanks also go to his optometrist, because until we found out he needed to wear contact lenses his catching was on a par with Vic Cavin's. The lightening quick winger was part of the HK 7s team that won a Silver medal at the Asian Games earlier in the season and has been a regular member of the Valley 1st Team that has lost only once in the past 2 seasons.
We wish them both the best of luck and I have no doubt they will do themselves and Valley proud.
