VALLEY RFC GRIFFINS UNSTOPPABLE!

Griffins 55 - 15 BMW Tai Po Dragons

Saturday was the first time that I played more than 5 minutes for the Griffs and some may say that deserved the DOTD award on it's own. However I managed to compound that with one or two minor errors on the park. So to explain, it appeared to the sideline that when I sliced the ball into touch from our 22, the ball went out behind where I had kicked it from. The howls of derision from the sideline masked the quick throw in by the opposition near the HALF-WAY line. A fact borne out by the penalty that resulted from Ross's high tackle on the receiver. To be fair to Ross, the guy ducked into it and probably had it coming anyway. Additionally (and to no small surprise to those who know me) I may have spoken slightly out of turn to the referee, trying to point out that after his sin-binning of one of their players, they had merely subbed the offending player and continued with 15. Needless to say this teenager (am I getting old or was he about 12?) felt the need to penalise me for pointing out his glaring error. Serious point though, we do need to cut out the back chat (I know that includes me) as this could cost us in tighter games. In a game where the facts are that we scored 9 tries (well done Winton, Bernie, Ross, Captain Dom, Nick - sniping in for his first of the season, Boris, Brent and Freddie 2), Ginger Tom upped his conversion rate to a full 13% for the season with a couple of perfectly judged kicks and one that almost matched my touch finder in forward momentum. Mentions also go out to Freddie for yet again scoring 2 tries before being subbed (jug avoidance again, how many times this season so far?), Ryan for turning up late and Sambo for turning up even later. After a lightning start we were 7-0 up and looking good. We then decided that it would be nice to the little fellows if we gave them an opportunity and decided to cough up the ball repeatedly in the tackle. However with half time approaching we hit a purple patch and scored the remaining 3 tries needed for the bonus point. Following half time, we scored a further 5 tries whilst Arrann (I haven't retired, i just don't play any more) ensured that all the bench made it onto the park. The only downside (other than my performance) was that we let them in for 3 consolation tries as we lost our shape and fitness.
Next week we have a week off playing for CNY, however a "training session" is planned on DB beach.
