GRIFFINS BEAT KOWLOON BEAVERS IN A CLOSE ENCOUNTER

Griffins 6 - 0 Kowloon Beavers

On a glorious Saturday afternoon the ‘Mighty Griffins' came together to what seemed like was a multiplying side, the team seemed more and more as the warm up came to an end.

At kick off the Griffins displayed their strengths on the pitch, testing Kowloon’s defensive stance. We truly dominated in the scrum, pushing Kowloon back into defending their line. It wasn’t until 5 minutes into the game did the referee stopped the game and it emerged that two of our players were laying in very questionable positions. Tony’s head emerged from under the maul and laying on top of him was Dom. From the sideline, it looked like Doms head was resting on Tony’s crotch. Dom was laying on top of him not moving his body but had the assurance of Tony speaking to him. 10 minutes later Dom was slowly carried off Tony and stretchered off to hospital. The backs were able to demonstrate their effectiveness in running miss and scissors moves but we seemed to struggle finishing off, there was few try avoidances, those hanus crimes shall not be named. Anson Bailey (aka PB Paris Hilton) joined his Kowloon team on the pitch, the man of steel was hungry for some action! After a few Griffins thinking twice about taking down the man machine he met his match with Boris’s fury, who was ready for him. We have our moments on the pitch, but arguing with the refereeing about a call against the opposition team was not one of them...Boris
The majority of the game was played within Kowloon’s 22 but when the Griffins were challenged they demonstrated their ability to protect their line with effective communication, team work and dedication. Kowloon tested the Griffins backs close to the end of the match, but it was evident that the communication and commitment from the backs ensured that Kowloon weren’t able to get through. Credit goes to the pack as they punished Kowloon’s side in the scrums, the pack were supporting the break downs well.
The Griffs ended up beating Kowloon 6 – 0 as Ginger Tom and Springbox Brent converted two fantastic penalty kicks from a fair distance to seal the deal.

We made it hard for ourselves by trying to play fancy rugby, at the end we won by doing the simple things right. What a fantastic win Griffins!
After the match we received word that Dom ‘demanded’ that the hospital wasn’t to cut his griffins shirt off BUT to fold it a place it next to him. Later on Dom showed his commitment by joining us at the pitch to watch the first team play – Commitment! Glad your alright!
