Valley People,
Its days like last Saturday that you make you proud to be a Valley club member on so many different fronts. Firstly a huge congratulations to the Mustangs for taking out the Grand Championship final for the fourth, yes fourth time in a row. Far from celebrating their victory several players on the “other” side of 40 were heard discussing the possibilities of rounding out an even five in a row….Nice work guys!!
To our brave Knights. Outweighed up front, but full of fight, you banded together to put on one of the best displays of character witnessed in a very long time. To be ahead at halftime after being 14 nil down and with Shep in the bin is staggering. You made your opposition work for every point in the second half and at no time could they breathe easy. Wayno, you have given the Knights direction and challenged the players to be at their best every week and as a result of this it’s no secret that this team maybe headed for bigger things next season.
The First team…..gutted, disappointed, upset. All words to describe how you felt at the final whistle, but I’d like to add a few of my own. Pride, determination, commitment and courage. You have given everything again this league season and more. Ten league games, ten wins! Losing hurts, but you have created your own piece of history within the Valley club and there is more to come. You also earned the admiration of supporters from both camps in the way you graciously conducted yourselves after the game and I’m still hearing comments in regards to this.
To the Black Ladies, the Bronco’s, the Griffins and Ma Jais, thanks so much for the support you gave to the above three teams on Saturday. As one very senior official from HKFC remarked to me on Saturday, “this is what makes your club so strong”. This is something we see week in week out and what makes us a club and not a collection of teams. To our faithful supporters, wives, partners, friends, children and past players, you have been fantastic all season and the red and black wave that descended on Kings Park on Saturday was inspiring to all the guys out on the field.
Lastly there is a break in the club rugby calendar now for two weeks. There is still club games to play for the first three divisions, while the Bronco’s, Griffins, Ma Jais and Black Ladies are still in full swing of their season…..so pick your chins up; if any are down, have a great Chinese New Year and we’ll see you all back on the pitch for Valley training on Tuesday the 23rd of February.
