BORNEO NICK

Dear Valley Rugby –

Through the Hong Kong rugby community I have received some sad news. Many of you may have played with or against one of the icons of Asian rugby, Nick Villeperieux.

Nick was recently stricken with cancer and passed away peacefully on Saturday, with his family at his side, in the Philippines.

Nick was alternately known as “Borneo Nick”, “Nick VP” or “PB Spicey” and with his blonde dreadlocks and crooked finger he was hard to miss on the pitch or on the sidelines. He had played for many rugby clubs in Hong Kong, especially Kowloon, and was one of the founding members of the Potbellied Pigs. Since leaving Hong Kong he had played for almost every club in the Philippines as well.

For any of Nick’s friends who are in the Philippines currently, Nick’s widow Judy has confirmed that the funeral service will take place this Friday (Feb 26) in her home town (about 4 hrs drive north of Manila) and she has promised to meet any and all of Nick’s friends at the Manila Tens on March 20-21. In addition, she has accepted an invitation from Kowloon to fly her to HK for the Sevens. Her number is +63 9394323388 and email judyvp96@gmail.com should you wish to reach out to Judy (she is fine with people contacting her). Judy and Nick were married for 14 years.

Best regards –

John Hamilton
