A smaller line up this week without too many reserves, put our fitness levels to the test, but also allowed the Cougars to gain some rhythm from quarter to quarter.
We started well in both attack and defence, especially being up against some super fast, fit and agile Kowloon Sapphire centre court players. Our own centre court game in Alex, Erin and Alison gave us the speed and breaks we needed to bring the ball down the court, with some nice intercepts throughout the game. Our positioning was much better this week staying to our sides and running onto the ball.
The girls in defence... Penny, Danielle & Michelle, what can I say a sensational effort to keep their shooters working hard for every shot and defending fiercely to make them have to keep feeding out to the circle. Danielle played a great "hands up" game and always seem to have a finger tip on the ball.
Lisa and Cara combined well in the shooting circle, if not nailing the goals the first time, rebounds were sought. Special mention to Lisa who had a rough and tough defence player knocking her down a couple of times, but she sprang back everytime. It was only in the last quarter that they worked out our shooting strategy, and stacked the defence.
Clipboard advice from Coach Jane on back line and centre court passes were well rehearsed and kept us in the game. Thanks Jane!
Keep up the great work Cougars... and remember: Hands in the air!
