PANTHERS 31-30 (W)
Panthers took to the court with sheer determination to get a win under the belt in the second half of the season. The first quarter ended a level 9-9 so we had to step it up a gear in the second quarter, some great passages of play through the centre court, team work and options around the shooting circle and excellent rebounds from Rach Bryant and Becca Miller meant we were 25-22 up after 3 quarters. We like to keep coach Joline Johannson and injured Lisa Martin & Katie Henderson on their toes, so when we were level in the 4th quarter we had to dig deep to finish 1 goal ahead!! A great team effort and special thanks to Hannah for filling in in her first Valley match!
TIGERS 23-36 (L)
Overall a good game played by all of the Tigers and newbies Phoebe Cobb and Ali Lyons. There were some stellar moments when the middies fired the ball down the court into the shooters who successfully finished it off. Some great tips and intercepts by Jess Hogan who was hunting from start to end and Laree Te Kanawa who was out of her comfort zone as GD but managed to pull off a good performance as MVP.
COUGARS 26-36 (L)
A bumpy start from the mighty Cougars this week meant we started off on the back foot down 9 goals after the first quarter. In true team spirit we sustained our fight and brought it to the Thistles for the rest of the game and pretty much held goal for goal. The end score of 36-26 meant we held for 3 quarters against a top team and gives us confidence that we have what it takes against strong opposition. We adjusted well throughout the game and our defense got stronger each quarter. Special mention to MVP Jen Feng for her movement around the goal circle and stand out shooting!
JAGUARS 8-23 (L)
After a strong performance last week somehow we could not find our flow this week. There was some great defensive work from Megan Prideaux and Ellen Jeffcott but the Jags were frequently shut down in mid-court, struggling to get free of the defenders. DOGA had very fluid play down the court with strong shooters finishing the job. Final score 23-8.
CHEETAHS 22-20 (W)
The Cheetahs got off to a roaring start first quarter. Being able to utilize some center pass drills from training into the match really strengthened our center court play and made a difference on the score line. Some rushed play in the second quarter allowed the rubies back into it and scores were tight at half time. However, the cheetahs were able to step it up a notch in the second half. Some strong play by Sigrid Balle in her new role of wing attack and some shooting under pressure saw the cheetahs pull off a 22-20 win. MVP is Kendall McCarthy.
LIONS 34-12 (W)
Our defenders have really stepped up their game, making it very difficult got the opponent team to penetrate through to their shooting area.
Strong holds across all players had made the Lions really "own" the game.MVP this week goes to Cici Hui for her huge effort in the game despite the lack of sleep, as well as the high number of goals scored.
