Valley Carnage v Punjab A - 22 November 2009, Happy Valley
Welcome one and all to the esteemed C team, the only Valley hockey team to win a season long tournament this century!!! Carnage has many proud traditions, very few of which have anything to do with hockey, and we welcome you all, the young and old, round, gangly, spotty, hungover and crazy.
The last few years have seen major change within Carnage. Four years ago we won the HKHA Cup, defeating our nemesis KCC 'B' with a last minute winner from Jason, but on the back of their successes (including 3 consecutive 2nd places in Div 2) the team was disbanded to bigger and better things. For example, two of that group went on to captain Valley's A and B teams. However worse was to come when due to some league re-alignments we were promoted to Div 1 for the first time ever. A new group of players performed miracles to even be moderately competitive with the likes of Dutch, but ultimately will be stronger for their experiences and the fact that they stuck together as a team throughout it all.
Due to yet more re-alignment, despite finishing last we remained in Div 1 for a second season, but with an influx of new players, our squad took the league by storm, winning 9 matches overall for a top half finish. The squad became the first Carnage side to ever beat Valley's own B team, a day that will live long in the memory of those that played in the 3-0 triumph.
Last year the economic woes (and Cricket Club's poaching efforts) ripped the guts out of the team and we struggled to win a single point all season although most of our losses were by a single goal. The result was that Carnage came last and have been relegated back to our spiritual home in the second division for the 2009/2010 season which augers well for a few wins!
