Despite a few sore heads after the Valley party last night we had 15 on the day thanks to Mikey F subbing up from the Ds and a few last minute turn ups.
We started well and as they only had 10 on the pitch for the first 10 mins we pressed home our advantage. A good pass into the D from Dan found Mofo lurking at the back post. It wasn't pretty but they all count! 1-0 Carnage.
The rest of the Dragons team then turned up and once they were full strength they made us regret underestimating them and tested our defence who were still getting to know each other. The equaliser was quickly followed by a second which despite some good skill to get into the D was apparently kicked into goal! Our new midfield of Thomas P and a cameo by injured Tobias helped us get some shape back into our game. Mike K took anopportunistic shot from the top of the D which deflected off the keeper and looped slowly over his head which gave Gunshow just enough time to get to the goal line and make certain that the ball went the last few milimetres across the line! Half time 2-2 and all to play for.
Coach Jeremy made some structural changes to respond to the opposition's attacking formation and his wise words made the difference. The second half was much better and we had most of the ball and made good use of it. Poppet forced a short corner and Kenzo produced a sweet strike which just squeezed under the logging keeper. 3-2 Carnage. Some good performances from our new recruits, Neil in goal had a great game & Michael M and the two Clarkes at the back became a more cohesive unit and kept the Dragons out any time they were looking dangerous. Adrian and Lester were stringing some good short passing moves together up the left and gave Poppet plenty of ball despite the amorous advances of #44 who got much closer than was strictly necessary to Poppet's meat & 2 veg. Later it was Lester's turn for a fondle but it didn't stop him making some great leads to the back post and oh so nearly getting some stick on the fine crosses coming in from the wings. Another shortie and this time Kenzo hit towards the near post where Lester benefited from his earlier practice runs and slotted in clinically. 4-2 Carnage.
Coach Jeremy was trying to get us to run down the clock in the corner but we haven't practiced that so we couldn't get the hang of it and they ended up stealing one goal back to make the final score 4-3 to Carnage and secured our first win of the season.
