We got off to a winning start yesterday in what was a completely mad game, especially the second half which was generally chaotic, but with everyone aspiring to great things this season, the win was all we needed. We were 0-1 down in a minute as they got to the byline (were not over it) and then a deflected cross was turned in. Tom on debut scored the first equaliser with a neat controlled reverse after a scramble and that was fair enough on the balance of play at the time. But just before half time, they broke two on two, beat Guy on the right and easily scored the 2-on-1 to lead at the half.
The first half had seen lots of other activity on the sideline as Max, Alex and Pete all arrived to watch, Pete nursing a washing up injury (what a Fairy!) from the night before which prevented him from playing this week. As we only had 12, the call was made to get Max and Alex kitted up for the game and so they to'd and froe'd and we then had a much bigger squad for the second half.
We forced an early save out of their keeper, and then had a shortie, but they got on top of the midfield and we were giving them way too much free possession in our half and there were plenty of hairy moments for us too as they put one over the bar, missed an open goal and generally managed to not score when doing so looked easier.
Suddenly a break for us and Muppet was away. He charged the D, cracked a shot, and... no, he cracked a cross and there to finish was Kimmie for his first of the year on the far post. An excellent run to get in position from Kimmie especially given he was occasionally the last covering defender during the game! They then messed up a few chances, before Max converted sweetly to give us the lead with a few minutes left. A late corner was then turned in by a KCC hip but allowed to stand, a good thing too as they got one at the death to pull within one.
All in all, not our finest hour, but at least we've all played a bit now, so no excuses next time! Newbies Tom and Benno and the returning Alex played well and Josse put in a man of the match shift covering at the back.
