Valley A Women Fight Back Against Club to Finish Even in a Cliffhanger

Last Sunday saw the first in hopefully many games that both Men and Women's hockey teams will play on the same day.

Historically, Scum dominate in matchups against Valley and the start of the game was no different with 2 goals scored against us in the first 10 minutes.
Unfazed by this, Valley women kept their heads up and, with some superb teamwork, were able to produce some good counter attacking play with midfielders finding holes in the Footyclub defence.

Nobody seemed to have eaten all the pies last Christmas as Valley midfielders and attackers ran loops around the somewhat sluggish Footyclub defence.

As the second half drew to a close, Valley teamwork shone again in attack winning a series of short corners.

Kiwi superstar Tina Bell connected with the first, smashing the ball past the dazed defence into the backboard.
However, Valley women were not done yet. With 5 minutes left of the match, second winds coming in and an ample crowd cheering us on, we secured another short corner.
You could almost hear a pin drop as the ball was pushed out into the circle, again Bell connected with the ball and again the sweet sweet sound of a ball crashing into the backboard was heard.

The crowd was hysterical, Valley women were hysterical, but with 3 minutes left Football Club was now thirsty for Valley blood.
Scum attacked with renewed vigor but were held back by superb defending by Olivia Cartwright and almost impossible saves by goalie Angela Mok. More than a few breaths were held in the stands as Footyclub desperately tried to one up us.
A strong clearance by Susie McCosh ensured the score at the final whistle was 2-2, definitely a score to be proud of.

Many thanks to all our supporters and to Mark and Tina for coaching.
