The Club was founded in 1975 by a group of ex-members of the Royal Hong Kong Police Rugby Club, some displaced individuals and schoolboys who joined forces to enter a team in the local rugby competition. The result was Valley RFC, so named because of its home in Happy Valley. Since its formation, the Club has aspired to provide an environment that mixes a strong social element with that of a competitive sports club and this has produced the spirit of Valley RFC.
Valley’s men of rugby have been running out in Black and Red for the past 27 seasons now and have dominated the leagues for the past decade. Valley is the most successful rugby Club in Hong Kong and has walked off with virtually every trophy in all four divisions over the past
12 years. In 2002/03 seasons Valley first team went undefeated for 16 consecutive matches taking out the League and then the Grand Championship, playing spectacularly professional rugby. In the same season the coach and captain were awarded by the HKRFU with the Coach of the Year and the Player of the Year respectively. The Top Try Scorer award also went to a Valley player, with a record 25 tries. The quality of rugby played by Valley is reflected in its arsenal of players. In recent years two Valley players have moved on to play in the Super 12
tournament in the southern hemisphere and several have moved into the National First Divisions in European teams. One player from 1999 also went on to represent the New Zealand All Blacks. In the 2002/03 seasons, two ex-Super 12 players represented Valley at Club level, raising the levels of enthusiasm, experience and talent throughout the Club. Valley continues to be the forerunner of Hong Kong rugby, operating the most professional teams and raising the bar for all clubs. In 2002 Valley RFC re-established some old links with Stanley Fort so that it could build a better framework to cater for more youth sides and to help provide young rugby players with a seamless path from junior to senior rugby. In 2004, to enhance the affiliation with Valley RFC, Stanley Fort changed its name to Valley Fort RFC and now plays in black and red (following the senior team strip). Valley Fort is one of the larger mini-rugby clubs in
Hong Kong and has over 380 registered players in its mini and colt sections. The club runs a number of teams at all age groups from Under 5's to Under 18s. Valley RugbyValley Ladies (The Pink Ladies) was formed in 1996 as part of the development of women’s rugby in Hong Kong. Ladies rugby in Hong Kong has evolved over the years from 7’s rugby, 10-a-side rugby to the first season of 15’s rugby being played in 2002-2003. At the time Valley couldn’t field a women’s 15’s side, however they did continue in the in the ladies 7’s league. They are supported by the same coaches and levels of expertise available to the men’s section. Off the field and off-season they are as active with touch and tag rugby and Dragon Boating where this year The Pink Ladies Dragon Boating squad won the plate winners narrowly beating the Hockey section Avalon Maidens.
The Valley RFC Netball Section was formed in the 1986/1987 seasons with just a
single team. It had a remarkable performance in its first year, finishing 2nd to HKFC in the League under the expert coaching of Jill Aston. It bloomed to the full in the second season [1987/88] winning all of its Matches with not a single loss and capturing all of the "titles" on offer in the Netball League. This resulted the Valley Ladies Netball being the first Section of Valley RFC to win a Hong Kong league Championship of any sort. It wasn't until the following Season [1988/1989] that Men's Rugby first won the League. Valley Netball Valley Netball has continued to grow and in 2002/03 seasons Valley fielded six netball teams and supplied eight of the 12 National team players that represented Hong Kong at the Netball World Championships in Jamaica in July 2003. Valley Division One (Panthers) and Division Three (Pumas) both won their leagues back in the 2001/02 seasons then in the 2002/03 Pumas yet again took the title for the Division Two League.

The hockey section was started in 1982, when a group, including disgruntled HKFC players along with rugby wives and girlfriends, decided to set up a ladies hockey team. In 1992 a group of Rugby players and anyone else that could be grabbed was entered to play in the summer mixed hockey competition. A team was then entered in the 1992-93 winter league. The following year after a more organised pre-season and some skillful recruiting resulted in the team wining the 5th division (107 goals for; 3 against) and the Hong Kong Hockey Association (HKHA) knockout cup. The team was promoted to the 2nd division, which they duly won a year later. Promotion to the first division was then followed promptly by relegation the next. The B team was introduced six years ago and a C team two years later. The Club now has six men's teams. Valley is now the second largest hockey Club in Hong Kong and with a little over 250 players; hockey is the largest section of Valley RFC. The section plays its home games in Happy Valley on the municipal pitch inside the racetrack at the South end, giving the Club one of the best backdrops in sport. Hong Kong is fortunate to have five water based astro-turf pitches on which league
matches are played, making the sport almost unique in the quality of it facilities. The Ladies section has gone from strength to strength and now boasts seven teams. Displays of enthusiasm for training are matched only by their after-match performances. League standings for 2002 are a testimony of the excellent efforts of both the players and the coaches. The Club has a team in every division of the HKHA leagues, both men's and women's and aim to provide everyone with an opportunity to play, from complete beginners to current internationals, at the core of this ideal is the Clubs provision of international level coaches from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The Club also has an U15’s team for boys and a development team for up and coming players of 14 years and older. Girls are able to play from the age of 12 in the ladies sides. In the 2003 the Club started up mini hockey, which was a great success with between 35 and 50 children taking part in training and mini tournaments.
